We’ve had a Douglas Fir growing in the corner of our property that unfortunately has been growing underneath the fence that borders our property with our neighbor’s. Because the tree has been growing from under the fence, the trunk is shaped in a curve in different spots which makes it look a little like a tree that you would see in a Dr. Seuss book. The other issue with the tree is that because it has been growing against the fence line for so long it never grew branches on one side- in the corner it looked fine but if you were to see it from behind, it would be sparse like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree. The tree was growing too big in the corner and the neighbors decided to replace the fence so it opened up the opportunity for us to remove it and replant it. It took two of us about 5 hours to get it out and replant it because of how deep the roots went and how far they were twisted out but now we have a tree in the front of our church.
We have the opportunity to grow through the depths of what we learn throughout the Scriptures. As we trust in the Lord, our understanding of Him will be more grounded and established. Our knowledge will spread like deep roots and we will grow more in the likeness of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jeremiah 17:7-8: “Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.”
